The Person Whose Face I’ve Taken

by Seohyun Ryu

Stranger

held me with only one hand

“who are you” i cried

she whistled                   “i am you but smaller and weaker”

the sudden lights and colors blinded my vision

but my eyes        opened wider than ever

i saw a blazing candle                     that was bigger and stronger than me

but soon the candle withered out as its wax dripped down my throat

and i somehow took its burning passion of youth

her lips plumped with swelling kisses

she acts as if it’s all meant to be                     as if she is willing to drift with time

but sometimes i see her          her face towards the wall filled with crayon drawings of mine

her whimpering the lullaby                   someone who prints her face used to sing and ignite

though she can’t hold me anymore

with even her whole hands                       and body

she keeps on

loving.
