i should write a poem about pretending to be a british fighter pilot during the battle of britain

but i can’t

My young self wants to fly in the skies

To leave her sunday school’s lip service behind

Chasing rudel and the others who will later launder their career

Far above her ancestors manufacturing weapons

She will forget in the gossamer haze of imagining,

& never for a moment ask why

Recess time ends & the pilot runs away

Winging above for friendlier skies
