by Rosalie Hendon
Winter sunlight is better than nothing
Like a cup of tea, weak and lukewarm
from its second steeping
Still warms the hands, some,
the throat
Still a small comfort
We would miss it, if it weren’t there
This tepid light gives the illusion of warmth,
still dazzles the eyes,
tells us the time, even if it’s to say
sunset is closer than we want
