There are many secrets here we must discover
As everything seems to be undercover

Us

As her toes touch the ocean water, he stands behind her

Her hand holding his, tugging him closer to

Us

 ‏‏‎ ‎

The water crashes, waves so small they whisper

 ‏‏‎ ‎

The wind holds its breath as we step into its space that once lived in our imagination

Our footsteps printed proof of our past that’s now present, a potential future that’s so new to

Us

 ‏‏‎ ‎

Her heart races as the silence blankets. He’s smiling and she turns to look at him slowly. They share a silent exchange of words; held within thoughts as his hand travels to her elbow, tugging her closer

 ‏‏‎ ‎

But she whispers:

 ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎don’t kiss me yet,

and he stares at her wanting nothing more than to start an

He looks up

She takes a moment to smile; her heart still races at the chance of an

Us

 ‏‏‎ ‎

She’s staring at him when he looks back down. He chuckles, so soft we barely hear it. The saltwater kisses our bare feet, shoes forgotten on the sand. Her dress caresses the foam, sand sticking to it

 ‏‏‎ ‎

We’re so close now, mere inches, nothing compared to the miles before

‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ And

There’s a moment where she considers what it would be like to close the gap that separates

It would only take a second to snap the tension, to have an answer, to know what it would be like to finally be an

But no, because

this deserves more than that

this deserves innocence

this deserves the softness of a slow start to

conversations in the dark

honestly I really love it

there’s something about it that lulls time

hearing the wind,

a bird’s chirp,

the rustle of leaves,

when it rains,

the consistent pitter

 ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎ ‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎patter,

the heat of the sun on your face,

the whisper of people talking far away

it puts me in the moment

and I don’t worry or think about anything else

‏‏‎ ‎

silence, the ticking of seconds

moonlight, a lightsource

a phone resting next to the pillow

soft white noise

 ‏‏‎ ‎

“there’s an aura about you, an uncorrupted spirit, a daydreaming child

i used to be like this too and then things changed but it’s nice to see that spirit persisting somewhere else”

‏‏‎ ‎

an understanding breath

a nail tracing wrinkles stamped on knuckles

an encouraging smile

 ‏‏‎ ‎

you can get it back

Wonderland

Down to the rabbit hole we go

Just like Alice when she fell below

That old tree that stood just so

In the dense forest that marked the beginning of – oh!

‏‏‎ ‎

There’s a canoe we must row

Down the rivers’ flow

Towards the roots that glow

As green as the leaves that grow

 ‏‏‎ ‎

But this world is different somehow

It’s obvious from the second we jump out

We must follow a guided route

Presented to us by plants that sprout

‏‏‎ ‎

But these plants are not what they seem

They dream under the lee

With sleepy eyes and floating Zs

Smiles that rest comfortably

‏‏‎ ‎

There are many secrets here we must discover

As everything seems to be undercover

‏‏‎ ‎

Our feet hit the cool water’s blue

And we take in the view

Making the decision to pursue

Something new
