Goodbye, for now

by K Weber

‏‏‎ ‎

A month ago my hand was a fist

and then it slowly opened and wrote poems.

‏‏‎ ‎

It slowly opened like a morning glory

morning; briefly invited everyone to look

‏‏‎ ‎

inside before curling up for the rest

of the day. For the rest of the day each day

‏‏‎ ‎

of April, more poems flew from my hand

like a delivery from a carrier pigeon

‏‏‎ ‎

or the stork. My hand was a fist a month ago

but now spreads seeds where words grow.

‏‏‎ ‎

It slowly opened to give and receive

poetry. Each day of April, my hand became

‏‏‎ ‎

less of a fist. Before curling up again, my

hand remained open to give you high

‏‏‎ ‎

fives, handshakes. April flew from my hand

but opened to give and receive poetry.

‏‏‎ ‎

My hand is now unclenched and applauds

you with my other hand. My hand waves

‏‏‎ ‎

goodbye, for now.
